| #2571 | WEDGWOOD: Canopic Vase: one of 500 produced by Wedgwood to mark the tour of Tutenkhamen in 1978. Black and terra-cotta jasper, based on an illustration in Dom Bernard de Montfaucon's work on antiquities. 1978. |
$5,500 | |
| #2407 | WEDGWOOD: Excellent full size copy of the Portland Vase in Solid black jasper, ornamented by Thomas Lovatt, one of Wedgwood's best decorators. The vase is a copy of a Roman cameo glass vase from c100ad, and many theories have been put forth about the meaning of the design. Wedgwood's own opinion was that they represented the Eleusinian Mysteries, a Death and Resurrection cult of the classical era. There is much to be said for this interpretation. We also have a mirrored stand available for this vase for $950. C1880. |
