WEDGWOOD:An exceptional, complete chess set in black basalt and white jasper. Designed in an Art Deco style by the sculptor Arnold Machin c1940, the War and the ensuing austerity prevented its manufacture until the 1960's. Although Wedgwood continued making these sets for many years, the moulds wore down with use, and it is only these rare early examples that have the exquisite detail that Machin intended.

The board is also a fitted box for the pieces.

C1966.

WEDGWOOD, Lamb of Manchester: Bonheur de Jour, or Lady’s Writing Desk: made by Charles Lamb of Manchester, and set with numerous Wedgwood plaques.

An extraordinary example of Lamb’s craftsmanship, following closely in the footsteps of Gillows; combining rare woods, ormolu, and finely undercut Wedgwood plaques to create an exquisite piece of furniture. Such pieces are seldom seen, and rarely offered.

Three drawers; two cupboards (each with shelf); shelf on lower section; brass galleries on top of each of the three sections.

139cm high; 112cm wide; 56cm deep.
