WEDGWOOD: King George III went mad in 1788, and subsequently recovered (for 12 years) in 1789. This medallion was made to mark his recovery, and shows Fame inscribing a tablet with the motto Health is Restored; with a bust of the King in the background. The frame is probably not original, but is of a style (and possibly date) to suit the medallion. C1779.

Broken and expertly restored.
